UGA Presents welcomes internationally acclaimed violinist Augustin Hadelich to Hodgson Concert Hall on Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
Hadelich, celebrated for his phenomenal technique, ravishing tone and insightful interpretations, will appear in an unaccompanied recital featuring music by Telemann, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, Ysaÿe, Paganini and J.S. Bach.
Hadelich has performed with all the major American orchestras and internationally with the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Philharmonic and many more.
The Athens program showcases the breadth of the violin repertoire, from Baroque classics to modern works rooted in jazz and blues. The program offers a survey of the violin’s expressive possibilities — from Telemann’s inventive 18th-century fantasias, to Perkinson’s bold fusion of jazz, blues and classical idioms, to the legendary virtuosity of Paganini. The evening concludes with Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D minor, whose concluding “Ciaccona” is regarded as one of the greatest works ever written for solo violin.
Hadelich will work with Hugh Hodgson School of Music violin students from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 1 in the Performing Arts Center’s Ramsey Concert Hall. The master class is free and open to the public.
Hadelich performs on the 1744 “Leduc, ex Szeryng” violin by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù, on loan from the Tarisio Trust.
This performance is supported by John A. Maltese.
