Penncara Energy is a leader in the commercialization of coal-to-carbon products processes, and holds exclusive license to a significant portfolio of these patented technologies developed at West Virginia University. Among the products covered are the synthetic pitch and specialty cokes needed to produce battery materials, synthetic graphite products for nuclear applications and steelmaking electrodes, and high-strength carbon fibers. The synthetic pitch has been used to produce graphite furnace electrodes that have been successfully tested at an American steel mill.

Penncara Energy has a successful track record in mining and commercial project development, and is currently developing a production facility to produce synthetic graphite and carbon fiber precursor materials, including synthetic pitch. This facility will be located adjacent to the concentration of carbon and synthetic graphite production facilities in the St. Marys, Pennsylvania region, where a significant market exists for these materials. The facility will use abundant, locally produced coal, and will close a significant supply chain gap for this critical industry with U.S. domestic production based on a Pennsylvania mineral resource.
