New Birth Announces 'The Great Awakening' – A Transformative Easter Weekend Celebration, April 18-20

Good Friday Service Features Grammy Award-Winning Artist Hezekiah Walker, ‘Bullseye Black Market’ Creates Platform for Commerce and Community

STONECREST, Ga., April 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — New Birth Missionary Baptist Church invites the community to The Great Awakening, a powerful Easter weekend celebration from April 18-20, 2025. This three-day experience will commemorate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ through vibrant worship, meaningful community engagement, family-focused activities and transformative economic empowerment while inspiring faith, renewal, and unity. All events are taking place on the New Birth campus located at 6400 Woodrow Rd. in Stonecrest.

“As we commemorate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, we embrace a season of spiritual awakening and renewal,” said Dr. Jamal Bryant, Senior Pastor of New Birth. “This weekend is designed to unite the community in celebration, reflection, and action, recognizing the transformative power of Christ’s love.”

The weekend of activities is filled with a series of events to galvanize the greater Atlanta region. Good Friday, April 18, begins with the Seven Last Words noon service, followed by an electrifying worship experience at 7:30 p.m. featuring Grammy Award-winning gospel artist Hezekiah Walker.

New Birth will distribute free Easter dinners to 1,500 families on a first-come, first-serve basis starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 19. Also, at 10 a.m. the Community Health Fair in the Family Life Center will offer more than $2,000 in free health screenings, pediatric checkups, and sports physicals, courtesy of the Atlanta Medical Association. Simultaneously, families can enjoy the Family Fun Day featuring food trucks, bounce houses, face painting, a petting zoo, and more. For adults looking to get active, E.F.F.E.C.T Fitness will host an energizing community workout session on the New Birth football field at 10 a.m.

Following Dr. Bryant’s bold launch of the national Target boycott in response to the company’s rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, New Birth is introducing the Bullseye Black Market, which will be open to the public April 18-20. This multi-city initiative will showcase 100 local Black companies, offering the community a space to directly support small business owners.

The Great Awakening culminates with a powerful Resurrection Sunday worship service beginning at 9:30 a.m.

“This Resurrection weekend, we are celebrating with the entire community, igniting purpose and transforming the lives of our members, families, friends, and neighbors in a dynamic way,” said First Lady Dr. Karri Bryant. “The Great Awakening is a divine call to transformation, a rising to new heights, and a bold step into the fullness of God’s purpose for our lives. As we worship, serve, and uplift our community, we want to reflect the very power of resurrection by bringing hope, healing, and renewal to all.”
