Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Completes Core Network Consolidation Project in Jakarta

JAKARTA, Indonesien, 29. August 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat oder IOH), the leading digital telecommunications provider in Indonesia, has successfully completed a major project in collaboration with global ICT solutions provider Huawei to consolidate the core network in Jakarta. This milestone achievement signifies a comprehensive partnership and propels Indosat forward in advancing and innovating mobile communication technologies. With over 100 million users and 26 core locations across Indonesia, the consolidation and transition to the cloud core within 14 months is unprecedented.

The project significantly enhances the network experience for Indosat users throughout Indonesia, especially those in rural and remote areas. Residents of Kalimantan are experiencing a 15% faster average downlink speed, while the average Round-Trip Time (RTT) for Facebook usage has been reduced by 11%. Additionally, customers in Central Java have reported improved performance when using the internet for gaming and live videos, according to a reputable third-party report.

Desmond Cheung, Director and Head of Technology at Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, stated, “We are honored to set another benchmark for the telecommunications industry. The core network consolidation project is a testament to our commitment to providing our customers with a world-class digital experience. We believe that with the completion of this initiative, we can offer our customers a great experience while paving the way for our mission to connect and empower every Indonesian.”

George Gao, Chairman of Huawei’s Cloud Core Network Product Line, expressed, “We are delighted to have achieved such a remarkable feat through our close and intensive collaboration, consolidating such a vast and complex network in such a short period. Huawei will continue to support Indosat in enhancing network connectivity, accelerating service innovation, and creating value for the industry in digital transformation to achieve greater business success.”

The project showcases the technological strengths of both parties, demonstrating hard work, courage, determination, and teamwork in overcoming a variety of challenges. As the core network is the most critical part of a mobile network, the Indosat and Huawei teams worked around the clock to conduct thorough analyses and reviews to identify solutions for network consolidation that must adhere to the “First-Time-Right” philosophy.

By adopting leading cloud-native technology for telecommunications companies, Indosat and Huawei market both bare metal containers and innovative dual-engine container solutions that support widespread commercial use of 5G core networks. The dual-engine container solution leverages cutting-edge technologies to manage both virtual machines (VMs) and containers in a unified infrastructure platform, enabling Indosat to seamlessly introduce containers through capacity expansion, significantly reducing the time required for service deployment and reducing time-to-market (TTM).

In the intelligent and digital age, Indosat has also increased its requirements for intelligence and ultra-experience. Both Indosat and Huawei have collaborated to provide future-proof core networks that can adapt to intelligent and hyper-distributed 5G A architecture. The solution meets current network requirements and paves the way for the introduction of new 5G features and services that are increasingly diversified for end customers and business clients.

Indosat and Huawei will continue to work together to build a smarter, more efficient, and secure mobile network and provide better service to Indonesian users. They will address industry challenges together and promote the continuous development and innovation of Indonesian mobile technologies.
