UGA staff members celebrated during 2025 Fall Staff Appreciation Reception

It’s the time of year when people give gratitude, and University of Georgia staff members were recognized at the 2025 Fall Staff Appreciation Reception for all they do.

“The University of Georgia is strengthened every day by the dedication and professionalism of our staff, and this event allows us to show our appreciation for all their exceptional service,” said UGA President Jere W. Morehead. “Their commitment to advancing our mission and supporting our campus community is vital to the success of this institution.”

The event, held Nov. 25 in the Grand Hall of the Tate Student Center and hosted by the Office of the President, included festive refreshments, such as hot cocoa and cider, popcorn, ice cream sundaes and a tater tot station. Two photo booths allowed attendees to capture the moment, including some special ones with Hairy Dawg. Staff members were treated to a large canvas tote bag featuring noted UGA symbols on one side and “How ‘bout them Dawgs” on the other.

Rebecca Mayo, OACU coordinator in the Office of Animal Care and Use in the Office of Research and president of the UGA Staff Council, shared what recognitions like this mean to staff members.

“The Fall Staff Appreciation Reception serves as a meaningful celebration of the remarkable contributions UGA staff make every day. It highlights how the administration values the commitment, creativity and perseverance that fuel our university’s progress,” Mayo said. “Moments like these not only uplift the individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes but also inspire all of us to prioritize recognition in our own spaces. By continuing to invest in a culture of appreciation, we strengthen our community, deepen our shared sense of purpose and honor the essential role that staff play in advancing UGA’s mission.”

It’s also an opportunity to build new connections. The reception serves as an important opportunity to network with people from other schools, colleges, departments and units.

“It’s great to see people outside my department,” said Miranda Pickens, sales coordinator with the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel. “It really shows the scope of how big this campus is when you walk into this room and see how full it is, and it allows you to connect with people you don’t get to see every day.”

For many, the reception has become an annual event they look forward to, particularly this time of year.

“It’s a wonderful way to wind down the semester, to see colleagues and enjoy a few minutes of fellowship,” said Sharon Gamble, associate director of career development in the School of Law. “It’s great to acknowledge each other and the work we do to make this great university such a wonderful community.”
